Left My Heart

This post is dedicated to the city I love- San Francisco.  The music scene is one of the reasons I moved here, and why I’ll probably never leave.  These local artists are just a few of my favorites covering everything from global, dub, electronic, pop, electro-punk, hip-hop and bluegrass.  Trust me, there’s something for everyone!  Also, a huge thanks to Jen F. who created a new header graphic for me.  Check out her photography here.

Left My Heart from alapierre on 8tracks.

Kicking off the mix, Beats Antique are one of the most visual and unique bands coming from the area.  Best known for mixing global and electronic beats with performance art and belly dancing, their live show is not to be missed.  Bizarre meets burlesque.

Enso is a DJ I’ve gotten to know over the past few weeks, both personally and musically.  Fresh to the SF scene, his take on electro infused house and is sure to get you moving.  ”Son et Lumiere” is a perfect example with a grimey bass, unexpected drops and perfectly skipped beats.  Check out his debut EP “Infinity”, and stay tuned for some upcoming releases.  Yea, I’ve heard some-they’re good.

Boyz IV Men and K.Flay both, have completely stolen the show from the bands they opened for.  The Boyz’ aptly named “Sweat” will having you do just that.  Their crazy antics  combined with grungy, electronic punk is bound to get you thrashing about.  K.Flay, on the other hand, floored me with her witty rap and sampling.  Her new EP “Eyes Shut” is her best yet.

Last and certainly not least are the guys from Foolproof Four.  Another band I’ve gotten to know personally, these guys go back to the basics with rock tinged bluegrass.  Introduced by a stranger eavesdropping on a phone call, these two put on a lively, fun and easy-going set.  Check out their full length “Apples of Our Allegiance” and again, keep your eyes out for more.

Debut

Hello and welcome to my new adventure in music, ‘The A Side’.

This time around, I’m going to make it real simple, great music in nice little packages.  All of the tracks I pick are here for one reason, and one reason alone.  I like them.  A lot.  They might be fresh from the latest EP or a few years old, but they all deserve a good listen.  I love checking out new music so send it my way!  Or photos…I’ll need some of those too. Enjoy!

Debut from alapierre on 8tracks.

‘Debut’ – Aside from the occasional DJ-bombing at your house party, this is really my first foray into mixing playlists.  This mix features the likes of Bay Area natives The Limousines and Geographer, the much-anticipated return of Miike Snow, a couple of dubbed out remixes and a little something I picked up from Oslo (thanks Anders!).

Purity Ring’s “Belispeak” is a clear standout track for me.  This duo has yet to release an album and has a few amazing tracks floating out there online.  A bit strange and eerie, they make sounds in line with The Knife accessible and less weird for the sake of being weird.

  • “Wildfires” – The Limousines
  • “Life of Crime” – Geographer
  • “Devil’s Work” – Miike Snow
  • “Belispeak” – Purity Ring
  • “Real is a Feelign” – Pictureplane
  • “Continental Lover” – Ost & Kjex
  • “Where Have You Been (Back From the Future Remix)” – Rihanna
  • “Summit” – Skrillex feat. Ellie Goulding
  • “Collect Call (Adventure Club Remix)” – Metric
